Recently, we have a very cold siberian weave- It's difficult to do something interesting but........ In fact, people stay at home warmmer than go outside. Do you have any idea?

De mi tierra me gusta el aire de las montañas, el sol en la playa y la risa de la gente.
Me gusta la gente humilde y sencilla de los campos. Y los niños caminando descalzos.
Me encanta la salsa y el merengue.

Me gusta el café mañanero. Aunque a cualquier hora cae bien.
Me fascina el coco de agua y el dulce de coco.
Todavía queda bondad en mi tierra.

Do you know what SOPA is? And its Spanish counterpart Ley SindeWert? Hurry up, go to Wikipedia before they shut it down!

To sum up:

1. In Spain if the law is enacted, which I think it is now, a website that may host material protected by copyright, can be shut down based on the decision of a Commision (people chosen from the Ministry of Culture) and not a judge.

2. The Spanish law, according to what Wikileaks brought to light, was based on the pressure of record companies that acted as a lobby.

3. There is no need to prove there is real damage to copyrights, but the law may act if there are, for example, links to copyright material in a website.

4. There will be a blacklist of offenders. In case the servers or hosting companies are not Spanish, that Commision can block the domain and the IP.

What I think is that new means of sharing, require new models to make profit from, and not try to apply old models into new means of communication.

Mis Clases

Hace una semana y una mitad, empecé el semestre de primavera de mi segundo año de la universidad. Este semestre hago cinco cursos - dos de español, uno de italiano, uno de historia, y uno de filosofía. Aunque hay dos cursos de español, son muy diferentes porque uno es de literatura española y otra es de la gramática. El primer curso se llama Imperio del Espectáculo y se trata del teatro del imperio español durante los siglos decimosexto y décimosepto. Ya es una clase muy interesante y he aprendido mucho de la cultura y el teatro de la época. El segundo curso de español es una clase de gramática avanzada, conversación, y composición. Vamos a aprender y repasar mucha gramática. También es un curso intensivo de la escritura y por eso vamos a escribir muchos ensayos sobre varios temas. Pienso que va a ser difícil pero útil. Mi clase de italiano es de nivel intermedio y es el quarto curso de italiano que he hecho. Por eso, trabajamos con todos los aspectos del idioma - la escritura, la lectura, la escucha, y la gramática - para mejorar la fluidez. El curso de historia se trata de la historia de Latinoamérica después de el reinado del imperio español hasta ahora. Satisface uno de los requisitos generales de historia (el de historia fuera de Europea o los Estados Unidos) que necesito completar antes de graduarme. Pero, también es un curso que me interesa y que quería hacer. ¡Dos por uno! El último curso es el de la filosofía. Este es el curso que me interesa lo más mínimo pero tengo que hacerlo para el requisito general de filosofía. La clase se trata de la ética y, por eso, pienso que por lo menos va a ser útil en mi vida. Sin embargo, no tengo la mente de un filósofo y no me gustan las ideas abstractas. Pero mi profesor es muy simpático y espero que tenga paciencia conmigo. Pienso que va a ser un semestre exigente y con mucha tarea pero interesante y divertido también.

Tengo un desafio para todos los hispanohablantes nativos. Esta mañana, estaba hablando con Silvia sobre cómo odiamos los lunes entre todos los días de las semana. Se me acordó de una canción que tanto me gusta llamada Monday, Monday por the Mamas and the Papas.

Singing in the shower this morning, it occurred to me that the guy who wrote the lyrics for the musical "man of lamancha" (Joe Darrion, apparently, thank you wikipedia) must have studied spanish at some point. Perhaps he had to read the book in class. I say this because, even allowing for the fact that the words need to fit the melody, no english speaker would have ever penned the line "I am I", (Soy yo) they would have gone with "It is me" (es mí) if they wanted to keep the same number of sylables. (and oddly,that would have sounded ridiculous) ok so perhaps they would have written "Here am I"

"It's me" must be difficult for the spanish speaker as not only is it technically incorrect but it also employs the neutral pronoun "it" which doesnt seem to exist in spanish. If you showed an english child a picture of themselves and asked, "whos that"? they would answer, "its me" an older more precocious child might reply, "it is I" if they wanted to show how clever they are (or if they wanted to be difficult), but nobody would ever say "I am I".

As I write this I wonder whether I have misunderstood. Given that situation, i.e. "pointing at an image" would a spanish speaker say "es yo"? although even if they did we could translate that as "he is I".

If, returning home late at night, your parner calls out in the darkness, who is there? would you whisper "mauricio" (obviously this will terrify her if your name is not mauricio) or "soy yo" ? the english speaker will always respond "its me"

I wonder why? nowadays we do it because everyone else does but i wonder how it got started. English is such a self centered language "I AM hungry" instead of "I have hunger", "I AM surprised" instead of "it surprises me". yet we cant manage to say "I AM I"

The advertising: it informs us or blind us?

Nowadays everybody is surrounded with advertisings products that are bad for our health such as: cigarettes and alcohol. Some people think that these products should be definitely banned, but the companies say that it is people’s decision to consume it or not. I will consider both points of view.

On the one hand, it is morally wrong to advertise something that can damage your health, but both products are advertised in different mass media. What is ironic is the fact that enough warnings are already given on cigarette packets but people still consume it.

On the other hand, it depends on the people if they want to consume alcohol or cigarettes. People should be allowed to make up their own minds. In addition to this, a ban would be against freedom of ideas.

On balance, I think consuming alcohol or cigarettes is up to people. Each person decides what to do with his or her life. It is a God-given right.
